Butterfly Garden!!

Our class as been observing caterpillars and writing our observations.  The students get so excited to come into our classroom and see what our caterpillars are doing!

The caterpillars were very small when we received them.

They grew a tremendous amount almost overnight.

They all started making their way to the top of the cup.

The students were very excited when we got our first chrysalis.

Now we have 5 chrysalis.  We will be transferring the chrysalis to the butterfly habitat on Thursday or Friday!  We can’t wait to observe the butterflies when they come out of the chrysalis.

CHAMPS Assembly

Our class practiced for our CHAMPS assembly on stage today.  The students did a great job. I forgot to put their jobs in their folders, but they do know their parts.  Some are introducing songs and pledges, and some are just singing and doing movements to the songs.  I will be sure to send the parts home tomorrow.  Thanks so much and we look forward to seeing you on Friday!

Active Shooter Training

The Board of Trustees at White Oak ISD invites the community of White Oak to Active Shooter Response Training. The event will take place in the CC Simmons Auditorium on Sunday, March 11, 2018. The event will begin at 2:30 pm and end by 4:30 pm including a Q&A time at the end of the presentation.

The trainer will be Mark Seguin, TBG Solutions Inc. Tyler Texas. He recently provided training to all employees at White Oak ISD and we feel his message and insight will be beneficial to everyone in White Oak.

There will be an updated report by the district on the security measures in place at WOISD and our commitment to providing a safe learning environment for our students, faculty and staff.

On behalf of the District, I hope to see you next Sunday.

Leprechaun Traps And CHAMPS

This week students will  be making traps to catch a leprechaun! If you have small boxes at home (Kleenex boxes, cereal boxes, etc.)  we would love to have them! I can’t wait to see the creativity of our students when they make their leprechaun trap. We will also be writing about our traps… And how we will use them to catch a leprechaun. The kiddos love this project.

Our class will also be presenting at this week’s CHAMPS assembly. Please plan to come and watch them on Friday morning at 8:00

Pajama Day!!

Tomorrow is the Polar Express Day! Your student can wear pajamas as long as they are dress code appropriate.  We will be reading the book The Polar Express.  We will also be watching the movie.  I would like for our students to enjoy hot chocolate tomorrow.

I know this is last minute…but…

We need a large can of hot chocolate mix, a couple bags of marshmallows, and 20 styrofoam cups.

If you are willing to bring this for us tomorrow, please let me know!

Thank you!

Merry Christmas!!!

It’s almost time for Christmas!!! We are going to be super busy for the next 6 school days.  We are still doing report card assessments.  Your child is able to choose a book from a book box that they can read independently.  Please have them find and write the sight words in the books they choose.

Don’t forget the Penny Christmas!!! If you haven’t sent your child’s penny Christmas items, please do so by Friday.

December 19th we will have our Polar Express Pajama Read-A-Rama!! Students can wear dress code appropriate pajamas.  This is also an early release day!

Our Christmas party is scheduled for Wednesday, December 20th at 9:00.  Mrs. McMahon has done an awesome job organizing it and I want to thank her for all of her hard work.  Thanks to everyone who is supporting our classroom by volunteering and bringing items!! You don’t know how much I appreciate you!

**************PLEASE HELP YOUR KIDDOS STAY WELL!!!********************

There is a LOT of illness going around…the flu is going rampant!  We talked about germs and hand washing.  We are doing our best not to spread germs.  If your student is sick…PLEASE do not send them to school!  Keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours.

If you would like to send a water bottle for your student to keep in his/her locker, please do so.  I do not recommend them drink from the water fountain…MORE GERMS!!!

Thank you for all that you do!!

First Grade Visitors

A few weeks ago our building flooded and some of the first grade classes were displaced.  We had the opportunity to welcome some of the first graders in our class.  Our class LOVED having the help of some of the first grade friends.  This was an awesome time for peer tutoring.  Our first grade friends helped us do our pumpkin project.  Here are some pictures…

Leaf Hunt

While talking about the changing of the seasons…we went on a leaf hunt.  We also went on a listening walk.  The students really enjoyed listening to all of the sounds of nature.  Here are some pictures from our leaf hunt.
